Several organizations have visited university campuses with trained pets in recent years, providing opportunities for students and faculty members to interact with the animals. Our university has also been holding regular programs to interact with therapy dogs since 2017. Many overseas university campuses have been using therapy dogs more actively than in Japan, with an increasing number of schools introducing therapy dogs to campuses to alleviate stress among students before examinations and other stressful events. Moreover, therapy dogs are sometimes stationed in overseas university libraries and counseling rooms. Research has shown that students can enjoy various beneficial effects by interacting and spending time together in the same space with therapy dogs, such as relieving anxiety and tension and bringing out peace and motivation.
