 note = {マーク・ストランドの新詩集, Blizzard of One (1998)は, どのような特徴があるのか。そのタイトルは何を表すのか。果たしてブリザード(猛吹雪)は起きるのだろうか。これらの点を念頭に置きながら, 4つの視点から考察する。まずは, 消滅を扱った2篇, "A Piece of the Storm"と"The Night The Porch"を考察する。2番目に, "Precious Little"を例に, 詩集に頻出する風について考える。3番目には, 詩人の問題を扱った3篇, "The Disquieting Muses", "The Great Poet Returns", "Five Dogs"を取り上げる。そして最後に, 日没を描いた2篇"The Next Time"第III部と"The View"について考えてみる。その結果, 以下のように結論付ける。この詩集の世界で, 嵐や吹雪が実際に起きることはない。だが, 起きるかもしれないという不安が, 絶えず付きまとう。例えば, 強風にもなり得る風が, 詩の中で頻繁に吹いている。それは今すぐ起こる猛吹雪ではないにしろ, 近い将来に起こり得る, とストランドは言っているようだ。つまり, Blizzard of Oneの世界そのものが, そんなブリザードの前兆となっているのである。, In 1998 Mark Strand published a new book of poems titled Blizzard of One. What does this title mean? Will a blizzard really blow up in these poems? Keeping these questions in mind, this paper will attempt interpretation of four groups of poems. First, two poems on extinction : "A Piece of the Storm" and "The Night, The Porch." Second, "Precious Little" : a poem about the wind, which is frequently blowing in these poems. Third, three poems on poets : "The Disquieting Muses, " "The Great Poet Returns " and "Five Dogs." And finally, two poems on sunset : "The Next Time" III and "The View." Through interpretation the following conclusion has been reached : no blizzard rages in the world of the poems, however, there lurk fears that it might blow up at any moment.
