Japanese geologists had been concerned to reveal an accretionary mechanism at the subduction zone until 2010. Even though both functions of accretion and tectonic erosion occur, they are 25 % and 75 % respectively of all subduction area. Recently, it has been recognized that tectonic erosion is more important function than accretion.
