To the best of my knowledge, however, few of the literature have focused on the linguistic environments (such as constructions and contexts) where English modal verbs tend to occur. This issue is worth approaching from a usage-based perspective (Taylor 2012), since those linguistic environments constitute linguistic knowledge with which native speakers of English use English modal verbs.
