Using the first wave data from the longitudinal study with wide range of students (third grade through ninth grade) covering on the their school adjustment, study time, academic motivation, and other various aspects which might influence on their school lives, this article explores the “transitional gap.” Contrasting to the prevailing hypothesis implying the negative effects of school transition, that is “transition gap,” our data has only partially supported this hypothesis. For example, junior high school students are feeling more adjusting at school and they estimate their grade point in Japanese more than the elementary school students.
