The work features a “turning” that was to divide his thinking into an early stage and a late stage, and the work outlined his thinking at the late stage. Another reason for its importance is his profession of anti－humanism, criticizing the humanism that had been a traditional, key element of thinking in the West. His stance has attracted controversy in light of the period when he was a member of the Nazi party. In this study, the author focuses on Heidigger’s disputation about humanism in Letter on Humanism that addresses various topics, and elucidates Heidigger’s intention to criticize humanism and how his anti－humanism stance developed from the 1930’s to the period when it was written.
